Survey Method

Survey is the research methods in which standard set of questions are asked to a large of participants. In survey, large amount of information is usually gathered from a large population very quickly. Polling is one example of survey method. This method is very useful in finding out the attitudes, values etc. of people toward something. Survey may be carried out either through use of interview or written questionnaire. In interview method the investigator administers the questions himself. Either closed ended (or multiple choice questions) or open ended questions (in which the participants have freedom to respond) are used during interview. In questionnaire method a set of questionnaire is given to respondents and ask to respond it.
Advantages:
1.   This method is very useful to gather large amount of information easily and quickly.
2.   This method is very economic and flexible.
3.   It is easy to administer. Because questions are fixed in advance, there is no need for trained investigator.

Limitations:
1.   The sample of study may not always be representative.
2.   Respondents may sometime not respond or may not respond honestly.
3.   Only surface information can be revealed from this method.
